The right logo communicates your identity and purpose with clarity.

In branding design I seek to understand the mission and culture of my clients. I seek to know what makes them tick and to distil what makes them unique.

Warsaw Shag Festival

Warsaw is home to some of the greatest swing dancers in the world, and they host wonderful festivals. With this design I was looking to capture the joy and humour of the swing dance ‘Collegiate Shag’, together with the vital energy of the Warsaw scene.

I was visiting the Festival to teach, and as my partner and I sat in an Israeli restaurant waiting for our hosts I found myself doodling on the back of the menu. The symmetry of the word ‘WARSAW’ appealed to me, and as I doodled I found an idea I liked, inspired by an image of scene leaders Michal and Kasia. As we waited for the others to arrive found I drew it again and again… until - aha!

Lionbeat

[With Beep Studio]
Lionbeat is a music production company rooted in bass culture. They wanted a clean, modern logo that was respectful of the rich history of Reggae music.
The design combines two elements that are highly significant to Rastafarians:

The Star of David:
Rastafarians believe King Haile Selassie was a direct descendant of King David.

The Lion of Judah:
Haile Selassie is also said to be descended from King Solomon and the Tribe of Judah.

Secret Garden Nursery

Secret Garden is an extraordinary Nursery set in a three-acre community garden. Children spend much of their time in nature, with well appointed outdoor classrooms facilitating learning through play.

Their logo had to convey the team’s gentle, nurturing philosophy with serious educational aims, so I adapted a classical typeface, eliding letters and adding a hand-crafted feel.

The lettering was machine cut in slate.
